Wave Rock

We left Kalgoorlie and headed towards Hyden, home of Wave Rock. Following the highway we turned off to take the dirt short cut, saving around 150km. The good thing was that this was a genuine 100km/h dirt road, there were a few potholes but none that couldn't be managed by some awesome rally style driving (by Lawrie, with Kitty quietly holding on for dear life). We arrived at the campground in the evening (that had great facilities) and setup for a meal of bangers and mash, which was well earned, however we ran out of beer and had to drink the mead instead!

The next morning we packed up and walked around the rock (another inselberg) and surrounding walking trails, the day really started to heat up so we continued on our way. Interestingly, the rock wall on top of the rock is used to increase the catchment area to the dam, but the leaks over the years contributed to the streaks of the wave (lichen growth).

Macca Pacca would be proud (for Jacob)

Swimming up the rock...kayak was WAY too far away to carry for an action shot
The rock...
After the rock we started our trip to Perth, passing through Hyden, the artwork was a taste of things to come on the Tin Horse Highway (a suggestion of our host at Wave Rock)...

Horse and cart!

He's a money grubbing monotreme...

Maybe this would've been a better choice than a tent?
