Hitchin

Tuesday 2 - Friday 5 August 2011

We had a six hour flight from New York to Heathrow and arrived at 8:50am, not bad considering that we spent an hour sitting on the tarmac at JFK. We had a quick trip through customs and immigration (thanks to Kitty's UK passport) and managed to get on the early coach to Hitchin. We arrived at 12:00, and after a small issue trying to get a hold of Mike and putting the bikes together to get them to his house, we said hello to Kitty's sister and had a catch up over a few beers at Mike's. We had dinner at one of the local pubs. The weather was actually good and we sat outside and enjoyed some good (warmish) English ales.

Very descriptive

Gotta love a country where the standard beer
glass is almost 600mL!

Tasty

Good beer!

The next day, Kitty was still suffering from some jet lag so Jenni, Mike and Lawrie went for a walk, stopping in at four or five pubs on the way.

Ingenious pig waterer at one of the pubs

It rains a lot in England. Good to be prepared.
On Friday, we did a little bit of planning for our southwest trip and went to visit Kitty's Grandad, who she hadn't seen in 10 years and she thinks hasn't changed one bit.
