Pampas

3-5 May 2011

We met our group out the front of the Indigena Tour offices at 9am where we got in a jeep and had an uncomfortable 3 hour ride to Santa Rosa where we met our tour guide and got on the boat. The crappy car ride was totally worth it though as soon as we set off. The Pampas are absolutely stunning.

We rode upriver for about 5 hours and saw heaps of different animals including alligators, herons, capybara, monkeys and pink river dolphins. Amazing.

We arrived at our lodge on the river where we dropped off our stuff and had a snack before leaving to a place where we could play volleyball and football and watch the sunset. It was nice except for the millions of mosquitos!

That night after dinner we went searching for alligators and found a few, although they were only quite small. The most amazing thing were the stars. There was no other light and you could see millions.

The next morning we went hunting for anacondas, which involved traipsing through muddy swamp for an hour to an island where the only snakey thing we saw was a lizard. It was still kinda fun though. We came back and cleaned off and had the afternoon free when Kitty lazed in a hammock and Lawrie did bombdives off the rope swing.

Later on we did some more animal spotting, Lawrie went piranha fishing and watched the sun go down again.

Sunset from the lodge

The next morning we got up before sunrise and watched the sun come up, which was really beautiful. We came back to the lodge, had breakfast and then went looking for some dolphins to swim with.

After lunch we headed back to Rurre, where we had another fun night out at Moskkito Bar, and a really cool (but early) plane ride back to La Paz the next day.
